The Senate is expected to rule on the Buffett Rule next week. This rule would ensure that millionaires never again pay a lower tax rate than middle-class families. I've sent my support, you can too. www.barackobama.com/pass-the-b…
Flood Wall StreetWhile yesterday saw the biggest climate change demonstration in history, with up to 400,000 people marching in New York according to organizers, today (9/22) will see another related demonstration. The UN Climate Summit will begin tomorrow in NY, which will not only see government talk on climate issues, but will include plenty of corporate green washing as well. Since corporate interests corrupting political will and rejecting the science are one of the largest factors for why the lack of climate action continues to be an issue, demonstrators will be flooding
85 richest as wealthy as poorest half of worldOxfam: 85 richest people as wealthy as poorest half of the world from The Guardian
The world's wealthiest people aren't known for travelling by bus, but if they fancied a change of scene then the richest 85 people on the globe – who between them control as much wealth as the poorest half of the global population put together – could squeeze onto a single double-decker.
The extent to which so much global wealth has become corralled by a virtual handful of the so-called 'global elite' is exposed in a new report from Oxfam on Monday. It warned that those richest 85 people across the globe share a combined wealth of £1tn, as much as the poorest 3.5 billion of the world's population.

Brazil, and Knowing the EnemyDear members of OccupyDA,
This journal is intended to clear up some information and to instill knowledge surrounding the popular protests going on in Brazil as we speak.
For those unfamiliar with me, I am actually a co-founder of this group and have been for a while now, working at the behest of :iconMephistophilez: to make running our agglomeration simpler and smoother. I consider this a continuing honor, and I sincerely hope he doesn't mind me putting this up without first consulting him. However, this is something that needs to be said.
The first thing I will tell you is that you should not pay attention to what the rest of DeviantArt (at least, the non-Brazilian members) is telling you about the protests, and from what I hear my friends around the world telling me about their media reports, do not listen to them either.
The protests which are currently going on are severely dynamic, but they have taken a definite turn towards conservatism.
The context of the protest is as foll

Cities in Red: Austerity Hits AmericaThe European debt crisis, and the ensuing austerity-fueled chaos, can seem to Americans like a distant battle that portends a dark future. Yet a closer look reveals that the future is already here. American austerity has largely taken the form of municipal budget crises precipitated by predatory Wall Street lending practices. The debt financing of U.S. cities and towns, a neoliberal economic model that long precedes the current recession, has inflicted deep and growing suffering on communities across the country.
In July 2012, Mayor Christopher Doherty of Scranton, Pennsylvania, reduced all city employees’ salaries to the minimum wage. With a stroke of his pen, wages for teachers, firefighters, police, and other municipal workers, many of whom had been on the job for decades, dropped to $7.25 per hour. The city, the mayor explained, simply could not pay them more. Ron Allen, who reported the story for NBC Nightly News, repeated this assessment. Cities like Scranton, he said http:

Goldman Sachs CEO Bitches About 'Entitlements'Just when I thought I couldn't hate this motherfucker more he has to open his Mr. Potato Head mouth again. I find it so offensively absurd that these parasites dare to whine about "entitlements" after the enormous bailouts we gave them despite their criminal activity and massive bonuses for which we are still suffering the effects while they rake in new profits, further expanding the divide between rich and poor. Remind me again why this clown hasn't been drug screaming from one of his many beds and air dropped naked into the Congo?

Thousands of Spanish police officers marchFrom RT Question http://rt.com/news/spain-protests-police-austerity-953/
Around 5,000 Spanish police officers marched through the streets of Madrid on Saturday to protest government austerity measures, including frozen pensions and the elimination of their Christmas bonuses.
Officers travelled from across Spain to take part in the demonstration which was called by the nation’s main policing union.
Protesters blew whistles, shouted slogans, and carried anti-austerity banners as they marched through the city centre to the interior ministry.
"Citizens! Forgive us for not arresting those truly responsible for this crisis: bankers and politicians," read one banner.
The Spanish government has imposed harsh spending cuts aimed at saving 150 billion euros between 2012 and 2014. The move has been met with anger and protests from hundreds of thousands of Spanish citizens.
The austerity measures are in exchange for a rescue loan of up to 100 billion euros from the EU to help the country
Occupy to Buy Up and Relieve People's DebtI ran across this earlier and I keep forgetting to share it. This is an Occupy project I especially love. These are the sorts of projects that Occupy should be focused on, and what a powerful example of how this movement is still impacting lives in real ways.
Occupy to Buy Up and Relieve People's Debt?
New movement will raise money to buy debt--and then relieve it. (from http://www.alternet.org/occupy-buy-and-relieve-peoples-debt )
Occupy's next project (one of many branches on the Occupy tree http://www.yesmagazine.org/people-power/infographic-occupy-bears-fruit/ows-infographic-960.jpg ) is an exciting one; a campaign to buy up debt and relieve it, one lucky debtor at a time.
The campaign wasn't just the brainchild of Occupy, but rather a coalescing of progressive ideas and projects around the issue of debt. One of the oddities of our system is that buyers can purchase "distressed" debt from lenders at knockdown prices. The usual course of action is to do this
The Art of MisunderstandingCompliments are a bit of a tricky and weird thing.
Especially on an international webpage.
=> the misunderstanding
In Switzerland you can tell someone who's a cool person that they are "en geile siech". Now, this is a really big compliment here, even though it's not considered the most polite vocabulary. Still, big compliment.
If you translate that 1:1 into any other language, you will tell the other person they are a sexually arousing and rotting corpse of a horse.
Don't do that, most people don't will look kindly on it. d:
Of course the same problem exists in the other way too. I was feeling rather saddened by the first one who told me that my drawings are "da shit". I had NO idea that this is a positive thing! I just assumed the other person told me that my works were bad. Thankfully, I asked them why they thought of my drawings as bad, which helped clearing that misunderstanding up really fast.

After a few years on dA, I started to hate

The black haired man smirked widely, his glasses sliding a bit down the bridge of his nose. "(Y/n)...why are you so afraid?" He asked oh-so-sweetly, making her (e/c) eyes lock with his crimson ones. "Y-You're a s-s-sadist, dammit..." She huffed and looked to the side, just as the creature made from Satan himself leaned down so that his lips met with her cheek.
